The Fundamentals of Consumer and Community Involvement for Researchers

Course Outline: There is growing recognition that the involvement of consumers and the community in research (CCI) can improve its quality and relevance. This has led to increasing calls for researchers to implement CCI in their trials. CCI ranges from the identification of research topics important to patients to the dissemination of research findings to the community. This introduction to CCI for researchers provides an overview of key points to consider when planning CCI and provides insights into practical application.

• Understand what CCI is and what it is not
• Understand the value proposition for CCI, including evidence on its impact on recruitment

• Be familiar with the principles underpinning high quality CCI
• Be aware of how meaningful CCI is operationalised and how to avoid tokenism
• Identify the key factors and resources required to support CCI
